Google Confirms Android Bug That Prevents Emergency Calling

Some of the Pixel users in the United States were unable to dial emergency numbers from their Android devices. A user reported on Reddit that they were unable to dial 911 from their pixel and other android devices.

Google has now confirmed this issue. The company says the issue appears due to the Microsoft Teams app.

In the internal investigation, they claimed the glitch is present on a few devices, where the Microsoft Teams app was installed but wasn’t logged into the account.

The incident came into light when a user revealed on Reddit that he was calling an ambulance for his grandmother but couldn’t call as his phone got stuck after one ring after he dialed 911.

Google says the issue appears to limited users. The company responded to the Reddit user and said the issue is with the Microsoft Teams app installed on the phone. The issue was caused by interaction between the Microsoft Teams app and the Android OS.

The company said,

“Because this issue impacts emergency calling, both Google and Microsoft are heavily prioritizing the issue, and we expect a Microsoft Teams app update to be rolled out soon – as always, we suggest users keep an eye out for app updates to ensure they are running the latest version.”

According to the report, Google will bring an update to Android on January 4 with a fix on this issue. However, it is advised that users on Android 10 or above who have installed the Microsoft Teams app but have not signed in should reinstall the app.

The users who are not running Android 10 or above or the ones who have signed into Microsoft Teams are not impacted by the issue. Also, there are many users who run the latest Android OS and have installed Microsoft Teams without signing in are not affected by the issue.

If you have downloaded the Microsoft Teams app, then check whether you have signed in or not. If you have signed in and are not affected by the issue, then remain the same until the Microsoft Teams app gets an update.

If you have the Microsoft Teams app on your device and are not signed in, then uninstall and reinstall the app.
