Whatsapp Launches Cryptocurrency Payments in the US

Whatsapp has launched a new payment feature with selected users in the US. The new feature allows the users to send and receive the money within chats using cryptocurrency.

This Whatsapp payment feature was rolled out to limited users six weeks ago. For this move, the company has collaborated with Novi, Meta’s digital wallet app. The payment will be made using Pax Dollars (USDP), a stable coin pegged to the US dollar developed by Paxos Trust Money.

Novi’s head Stephane Kraisel announced this by posting a tweet saying the new Novi payments feature on Whatsapp in the United States.

Sending payment on Whatsapp works similarly to sending any attachment in the app. There are no fees for sending or receiving money, no limits on making payments, and no fees to keep a minimum balance in the Novi account. And the payments are transferred instantly.

According to the reports, Novi was piloted six weeks ago. Kraisel said,

“We’re still very early in the Novi pilot journey, so we made the decision to test this new entry point in one country to start and will look to extend it once we’ve heard from people what they think of this new experience,”

Stephane Kraisel also ensures that the user’s privacy on Whatsapp will not be affected as the chats would remain end-to-end encrypted.

How to Send Money via Novi Payment Services on Whatsapp?

Here are the steps to send or receive money on Whatsapp using Crypto:

  1. Open Whatsapp and the chat of a contact whom you want to send money
  2. Android users, click on the clip icon or attach icon
  3. iOS users, click on the plus (+) icon in the chatbox
  4. Then select the “Payment” option
  5. After that, add the amount that you want to send

Currently, WhatsApp Payments are available in India and Brazil. And the US becomes the third country to get this feature. However, the option of sending money in Crypto is not yet available in India and Brazil, but in the US only.
