Whatsapp has multi-device support that allows users to use their accounts on multiple devices. It allows you to use Whatsapp accounts on up to four devices and only one smartphone.
This means users cannot use one account on multiple smartphones. However, the Meta-owned messaging app is working on a new feature that will let you use the same Whatsapp on different smartphones.
This feature is spotted on the beta version of the Android 2.22.10.13 update. Currently, the feature is under development, and it’s not clear when this feature will arrive.
Use Whatsapp Account On Multiple Smartphones
According to WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app is expanding the multi-device support to secondary smartphones and tablets.
It has also shared a screenshot that shows the interface while opening the app on a second mobile device. There’s a “Register Device as Companion” section it gives an idea of what the feature might look like.
The new feature is called a “companion” device. To use one account on a different device, users will first have to register their device as a companion. After that, users can access an account by scanning a QR code using their primary smartphone.
The screenshots show that WhatsApp will call the new feature a “companion” device. Here’s how this will work. Already there is a multi-device feature, but you can only use the app on multiple desktops.
So, let us see how does the current multi-device feature works. Firstly, you will need your phone to link the Whatsapp account to multiple devices. Then you can use the app without a smartphone.
For that, open Whatsapp, and click on the three-dotted icon at the top right corner of the screen. It will show the Linked devices option. You must click on it and tap again on the “Linked a Device” option.
Now, open the Whatsapp Web page on your computer and scan the QR code with the help of your phone. Follow the same process to access the app on other devices. Also, if you want to remove your account from the devices, there is an option.
